We have had a great horse season here at HHH with lots of firsts for us here this season—

HHH @ THE EXPO

It started this spring with an invite from the Minnesota Horse Council to have Candy, the blind horse owned by Rosie and boarded at HHH for many years, to be part of the MN Horse Expo!  We have attended the expo for years and have even volunteered at several booths for various organizations for years but have never been an active participant.  Candy did wonderfully and brought inspiration and hope to many owners facing a tough decision when faced with a horse losing their sight.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Our spring continued with our participation in the Special Olympics program.  For our inaugural season we had nine athletes on our Equestrian team and a handful of wonderful volunteers led by our barn manager, Laura Smith.  The athletes started training on Angel & JR in May and had ten training sessions that lead up to the competition in August.  They participated in the western showmanship, western pleasure and trail classes and did very well and a great time was had by all.  We are hoping to expand the program to 12 participants next year and perhaps maybe even have an entry in the drill team class—watch for the Gold Rush.  Congratulations to all of our athletes and a big thank you to our volunteers.

HHH @ THE DAKOTA COUNTY FAIR

The summer continued with our first time participation in the 4H show at the county fair.  Even as my kids were growing up, we never did any shows as they were more involved in team sports so this was a first for me.  Karlie and King did very well in their classes and I was proud of both of them—Karlie for hanging in there and King was so handsome and still had plenty of show appeal even at 27 years old!

A WEDDING @ HHH

We wrapped up the summer with a wedding here at HHH—after sixteen years of dating and living together Steve and I finally got hitched.  The ceremony was in the arena with Steve on King and me on Buzz.  After the ceremony we rode off for a sunset ride, came back for a pig roast, bonfire and barn dance!  After the clean up Steve and I headed for some riding in the Black Hills with Gypsy & Rocky.  Again we pulled this whole thing off thanks to the efforts of our family and friends.

FALL RIDING IS THE BEST

Our fall has continued to be busy with lots of trail riding to take advantage of this wonderful weather.  To show our appreciation for all of our volunteers, we took them on a camping weekend at Lake Elmo Park Preserve hauling a total of nine horses for the weekend and doing lots of riding on some wonderful trails.  Again another first for me—I had never been to that park and looking forward to visiting it again.  Our fall lesson program continued with assisted riding group lessons with many of the volunteers we had for our Special Olympics program plus others that joined us from Westwind’s program after it shut down.

NEW HORSES @ HHH

Also another first for me—I actually sold one of my horses—after leasing Tranny to a couple of different people we found the perfect match for her and she was good for Cheri too and she asked to buy her which worked for me because she will still be in the barn.  While I sold one we have added a number of horses to our herd due to a variety of situations this fall.  First Goldie & Gopher, a nice pair of Palamino QHs, came to us and we hope to add them to our Special Olympics and trail riding programs next year. Then we moved over a number of lesson horses from Westwind Stables—Copper (POA), Jessie (Saddlebred/Arab X), Bo (Morgan) are nice riding horses and available on a lease basis for some light riding, Annie, Mazey, Lizzy & Jordy (Arabs) will be used for our day camp, lesson and therapy programs for next summer. Our final addition, Dusty, an APHA that will also be available on a lease basis for some heavier trail riding and will be used in our trail programs next year.

2012 DOG SEASON

Great news—We will be leasing two additional teams for the upcoming season and Shawn will be running dogs this year which means that even though I will be on the road every weekend this year with my core team of dogs we can now accommodate individuals, families and smaller groups looking to go for a dog sled ride on the weekends!

We will be at the Boy Scout camp in Rice lake for six weekends again this year as well as doing rides for Fridley & Lakeville winter events, the welcome week for students @ MSU and rides at Riverbend Nature Center in Faribault.  We are planning our annual Snow Sisters weekend in March and new on the calendar is the New Years Eve event for Dakota County at the Lebanon Hills RP visitor center.  Check out the calendar for details and book your rides soon because it is filling fast!

I am looking forward to watching our pups run this year—many of you have watched our Easter pups grow throughout the summer in the puppy yard.  We will be taking them with on the road to socialize them and I think we will have them in harness for some light training by the end of the season plus we will have our 2010 pups in harness this year for their first season on the line.  Should be fun!

Of course we still have plenty of work to do in our seasonal swap and we are looking to upgrade our second dog truck—I don’t know if the F150 will make it through another season especially if we are going to keep Shawn and those two new teams as busy as I hope to.
